December in PreK 3 will be filled with making Christmas ornaments, decorating our room, and hearing the story of the birth of Jesus. Before we are out for Christmas break, we will have a Pancake and Pajama Party.

We are continuing to learn our letters and sounds. Please practice with your child at home.

Mrs. Ware and I pray that you have a Blessed Christmas!

November and December are the busiest times of the year. We take time to remember the people who have given so much to make our country great. The stories of veterans and Pilgrims are ones that must be told. After Thanksgiving, we start our holiday study of how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Our class turns into crafty people as we make ornaments and presents for loved ones.

We will be going on a field trip on December 15 to Publix and the West Regional Library. There are lots of things to do and learn.

First Grade, Mrs. McMillan

First Grade is learning some exciting things this month. In Math we have started fractions, we are learning to tell time and we are counting dimes, nickels and pennies together. My students are very excited about their cursive writing; we are almost through the entire alphabet. The students really enjoy writing their names in cursive.

We finished up Health & Safety and are now studying our great country in History/Geography. The students will learn about the brave pilgrims this week and our first Thanksgiving. In Phonics/Language the students are learning to write sentences correctly and how to add a suffix to the end of a word. Some of my students really like to write stories of their own and read them in front of the class.

I'm proud of my class, they have learned a lot in the few months they have been here.

Our second graders are getting excited as the Mayflower in our hallway is nearing America. Sixty-six days is a long time! We have been learning about this journey made by the Pilgrims and are currently exploring (through books and pictures) Plymouth Plantation and the living conditions and customs of that era. Our Thanksgiving feast will be celebrated in our classrooms on Tuesday, November 25Th. Room mothers will be contacting you for help.

We are both so proud of our students for their enthusiasm in learning their Bible verses. They have done so well with the November work that we will be able to start the December Bible verses early.

Please continue to drill addition and subtraction facts with your child. Committing these to memory is so beneficial, even essential, to future work in mathematics.

We wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving season filled with God's richest blessings.

Wow! It's hard to believe that almost one half of the school year is over. The students are doing great and working hard. I am very proud of them.

We are looking forward to our Christmas Party on December 19th. Please plan to attend, it should be great fun.

Let's remember to pray for each of the students in our class and their families.

We enjoyed a field trip to Marineland in November. We learned many new things about dolphins and had a great time. We will have our class Thankgiving feast during the last week of November. Our Christmas party is coming up soon as well. I will be sending home information about our party soon. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving as we remember to give thanks to God for our many blessings!

Science has been a blast, literally, as we have done many experiments dealing with matter and its different states. Our matter and weather unit will conclude with a test on November 25th. Sound will be our next theme. As we learn about writing in Language, everyone should be working diligently on their book reports that are due November 21st. In History, we are currently studying the thirteen colonies and their founders. All those multiplication and division facts are being put to good use as we learn factoring in math.

Both classes will be joining together to have a Thanksgiving Feast on November 25th at 11:30. Also, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes will be presenting the Christmas program on Tuesday, December 16th at 9am and 7pm. The kids are working hard on the program and they are sounding great!

Reminders:

Read for BOOK IT!

And as always, practice your math facts!

Fifth grade students are looking forward to the last elementary school play in which they will participate, "Country Christmas Spelling Bee." It will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Besides the play, we will be rehearsing the countries and capitals of Asia and reciting Psalm 19 and Psalm 91. Learning about and using decimals will keep us busy in Math, and in English we will be writing a Diamante and Sense poem. We will also look forward to learning study and reference skills. Already, there is such great improvement in our fifth grade class as they strive to study more diligently. I am so proud of their progress. We are looking forward to the Christmas season as we learn to be "bold and positively different" for Christ. As we celebrate the birth of a baby at Christmas time, let us not forget the Christ of the Cross. May you and your family have a blessed holiday season.

Library/Media, Mrs. Taylor

Already we find ourselves in January and the school year seems to be flying by.

During the month of January we will be enjoying cold weather stories, songs, fingerplays, and puppets in the library.

In just a few weeks we will also be sharing works about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ruby Bridges. Their contributions to our expressions of freedom are ones that cannot be missed by our student body. Our library has books on all reading levels that I will be sharing on Dr. King and the story about Ruby Bridges will lead us right into African American History Month.

At the very end of the month our Bookfair will be delivered. Bookfair will be the first week in February and if you are inclined to volunteer please let me know. Those of you that already have thank you very much.

Seventh Grade has just started a new unit. They are studying The Beginning of the Modern Age, A.D. 1500-1800. They are learning lots of interesting things as they continue to search for current events each week.

Eighth Grade is researching state government for their Civics Book. This section is due November 21. They are also learning about the War of 1812.

Math, Mrs. Eden

This month is very busy for 6th grade because many of them are learning percents for the very first time. I think only 50% of our 6th graders like percents. 7th grade finally gets to start their algebra chapter on Friday November 14. I think I am more excited than they are. 8th grade is deep into learning about polynomials. One night one of their problems took up at least half of a page. These are exciting times!

Science, Mrs. Allison

We are moving right along in our fun and exciting science classroom. The enthusiastic eighth grade is going to finish their science book and move into their health book. The excited seventh grade class is going to step into physical science. The always moving sixth graders are going to move right into insects. Please remember to be working on your science fair project. Do not forget those all important due dates. Have a Merry Christmas.

English, Mrs. Rossiter

In English, the eighth graders gave campaign speeches and endeavored to persuade their classmates to vote for them for such positions as neighborhood leader, president of a children's hospital, and even the president of a space station. The students also attended a professional production of five literature short stories.

Bible, Mrs. Ecord

Our 6th grade class is currently studying the Bible account of Noah and God's gracious preservation. The 7th graders are currently studying Christ's example. Christ must first be our Savior; then He becomes our example. Our 8th graders just moved into the Patriarchal Era, studying the lives of Job, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is exciting to research the lives of these great men and women of faith, especially highlighting the circumstances that God brought them through. It is an exciting time in Bible class! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Computer, Mrs. Hunter

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Computer Lab. My prayer is that your holiday season will be filled with blessings.

Since our last posting, our preschool classes have learned "Space Shapes" (to practice clicking with the mouse) and Tux Racer (a fun downhill penquin race using the keyboard). The next game we will learn is "Cosmic Colors," where we drag and drop using the mouse. Our elementary students will continue to look at rules for using the Internet safely and practice keyboard skills using All the Right Type. Sixth through eighth grade students will complete their PowerPoint projects and begin a project in Excel to create a worksheet with an embedded chart. They will also continue with their open book quizzes, terms tests and interactive keyboard lessons.

As you can see, we will be very busy...but not too busy to stop and celebrate this precious season of thanksgiving and celebration for the birth of our Lord. May God greatly bless your families this Holiday Season.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hunter
