Cedar Hills Baptist Christian School

Academic Information

Cedar Hills Baptist Christian School uses Christian curriculum such as A-Beka and Bob Jones from Pre-K3 through 8th grade. We teach writing skills, phonics, reading, math, Bible, spelling, science, social studies, computer, music, physical education and art. Our three-year-olds begin with letters and sounds and progress to reading words. Four and five year olds will learn letters and sounds and learn simple arithmetic and good writing skills that will give him a head start in elementary grades.

Spiritual Growth

Bible is an important subject at CHBCS. Bible stories, personal applications and prayer time are classroom activities. Chapel is held on Wednesday mornings. CHBCS students in grades 6th through 8th can participate in a State Bible Drill competition. This involves both local and state drills. Emphasis on God and country is an integral part of all that is taught at CHBCS.

The Arts

Art and music are integrated into class activities. A vocal Ensemble, a special auditioned group from grades 3 through 8, performs at various functions throughout the year. Students in grades 4 through 8 also have the opportunity to participate in after-school band sessions. Their activities include performing for school functions as well as for city-wide Honor Band programs.

Sports

Structured Physical Education classes for grades 1 through 8 provide students opportunity in developing physical and social skills as well as self-confidence. Team work is emphasized. The competitive sports of girls' basketball and boys' soccer and basketball are enjoyed as they engage other schools in competition through the Independent Middle School Conference.

Social Development

Club activities which vary throughout the year include a National Beta Club, the Christians in Athletics (C.I.A.), providing opportunities for spiritual as well as physical growth through the athletic program, and the Year Book Staff. Other extra-curricular activities include special field trips for outstanding grades in citizenship; participation in the Duval county Spelling Bee; special event days; Bible Drill competition and opportunities for drama and music throughout class programs.

Parents Involved in Education (P.I.E.) is our parent organization committed to enhancing the school through parental involvement.
